Our vacation to Maui in February was decidedly different from our vacation there two years before. Having seen the standard tourist attractions before, this time we concentrated on doing what the locals do and explored parts of the island that most tourists do not have the time to enjoy.

Mayor Chuck Hazama -- yes, he is still known as Mayor Chuck on the islands, even though it has been a number of years since he was mayor of Rochester -- invited us into his home one afternoon and shared Maui-made wine and munchies with us. He lives in his boyhood home in a typical residential neighborhood and has filled his yard with Hawaiian fruit trees and flowering shrubs. He has one of only four yellow tulip trees in all of Hawaii.
