This picture is taken at the Rodanthe ferry looking north, just as we are leaving the dock. The accompanying slideshow "Homeward Bound" hopefully gives the viewer a sense of what is was like heading north from Buxton, the ferry ride and ending with a pic off the CBBT. We are sad our "hurrication" (thanks Jerry) is over. we haven't really come to terms on how to describe the past 2 weeks. It was nothing like we expected!12 Ekim 2012 Cuma

We're home now, looking at pictures in the camera. We've been reminded more than once by friends that it really wasn't the smartest thing we've done, to stay at the beach house for a hurricane. And in the interests of a "PSA" (and heeding the advice of Salvo Jimmy, from OBX Connection) we won't be doing this again. Anyway, our last slideshow "Home from Irene" has the last of our pics...or most of the last. 1st day back to work is over, i think the "vacation" is catching up to us...i want to lay down.

Check out this picture courtesy of USGS, taken after Irene on Wednesday 8-31-11.. Our friends at OBX Connections found this (thanks "twcmaster"): http://coastal.er.usgs.gov/hurricanes/irene/post-storm-photos/irene_photo.html
These are 3mb files that offer excellent resolution, just click on the orange dots up and down the coastline to view your neighborhood of interest! Our place "Stone's Throw" is almost in the middle of the picture, the square house with our silver truck in the driveway. For those unaware, if you're thinking about the obx for next year's vacation please check our mgmt company's website for both up and downstairs' units: http://www.hatterasvacations.com/

We've been running down now and again and thought we'd add a few off-season pictures. The military-style bridge in Rodanthe is quite narrow: if you exceed the 20mph limit you're going to launch yourself right off the thing. I guess we should expect change, and the off-season offered just that...Finnegans is now Hurricane Heather's, dunes are crazy steep, houses need work..wait a minute, houses always need work! But one thing never seems to, the feeling you get on your first walk on the beach.

Kathleen Elizabeth! And she leaves for the beach Sunday, as she has enrolled in the NC Real Estate Class that starts Monday in Nags Head. Her plan is to work part time while taking the class (has an interview with Midgett Realty on Tuesday), and afterwards take the broker exam while working full time. Classes are MWF, 6pm-10:30pm. She'll stay at the beach house for the 2 months of classes. After that, well... she's even looking at travel trailers she can park in a campground. So away she goes, paving the road for us to follow. I'm betting she does just fine, which means i better figure out what i'm going to do down there. Maybe i'll learn how to fish.

Kathleen is down here in Hatteras, NC and i think the only way she is returning north is under heavy sedation! She loves her job with Midgett Realty's Guest Services Division and we are presently scrambling to find her a place to stay while the beach duplex is renting to vacationers. The Midgett folks gave her a condo at Hatteras Landing to stay in (i kid you not) while we get it figured out. To the left is a picture of the harbor where a boardwalk surrounds the many boats berthed here, next to the ferry dock with shops everywhere! Definitely worth a moment before you board the ferry for Ocracoke.
